Idaho Hunting Guides and Services
Welcome to Ken Smith's Hunting Idaho web pages. This site is the former home of 62 Ridge Outfitters & Guides which was operated for many years by Ken & Elizabeth Smith and sold in 2000. Ken & Elizabeth acquired the area and business they now call Ken Smith's Hunting Idaho in 2003 and have operated this business through the fall of 2010. Ken Smith's Hunting Idaho is now owned and operated by Matt Hoffman who purchased the business in the fall of 2010. Matt will keep the name, Ken Smith's Hunting Idaho, along with Wild Times Adventures as his business names. Ken will remain as a Designated Agent for the 2011 season, so for those of you that have wanted to hunt with him, this is your last chance as he will be retiring from guiding after the fall of 2011.

I have been outfitting trophy deer and elk hunts in Idaho's Unit 11 for 30 years. During this time we have maintained a 99% hunter success rate. We have been able to maintain results like this due to our knowledge of the terrain and our experience in this area. We spend summers running our rafting company on the Salmon and Snake rivers, which border Unit 11, and we guide hunters in the fall. Unit 11 is the best Mule deer, Rocky Mtn. elk, and Bighorn sheep trophy hunt in Idaho. Unit 11 has been a draw system hunt for the last 30 years, and has seen excellent management by Idaho Fish and Game. Due to this management the unit consistently turns out top quality bulls, bucks, and rams.

Our hunting area consists of approximately 275 square miles of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. All our hunts are horse pack in and tent camp hunts. We hunt units 27 and unit 28 and use six to eight different camps throughout the season depending on weather, season dates and hunting success. You may book a hunt as one hunter per guide or two hunters per guide. Sorry, we do not offer drop camps.
Our elk country is steep and rough with elevations from 3500 ft. to 10,000 ft. with camps located from 5000 to 8000 ft. Our success is around 45% take and 80% opportunity. Our success rate does not imply easy hunting, it simply means we hunt hard and have an excellent population of trophy animals to hunt.

rophy hunts for whitetail deer, mule deer, mountain lion, bobcat, black bear, elk and moose around Sandpoint Idaho is Buckshot Outfitting's specialty. We take great pride in being an Idaho outfitter offering the best in Idaho hunts and your satisfaction is extremely important to us. Whether you choose an archery hunt or a rifle hunt, our experienced and hardworking guides will do all they can to insure that your hunt is a success. There are definitely larger outfitters in Idaho but none that will give you more personalized service than a small family-run outfit like ours. No outfit can be any better than the territory on which it is operated, and that is why we've chosen this area in northern Idaho. This area harbors the habitat, age structure, genetics and nutrition necessary to consistently produce trophy animals of all species for which we offer hunts. We've been outfitting here for over 14 years which has given us an extremely thorough knowledge of the vast area we hunt. We've got our favorite spots but we're still in the woods year 'round always looking for something newer and better.
